Slytherin Hogwarts House

Welcome to The Slytherin House Quiz! In this quiz, you will find many harry potter and the wizarding world stuff regarding Slytherin. You will know from harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone to the deathly hallows and much more from harry potter books.

Harry Potter and the Slytherin House

Not many people want to be a Slytherin because it is believed to be the house of evil-natured Wizards and Witches. It is not true at all and we will see it today. It will change your opinion about Slytherin house.

The four Houses of Hogwarts are the symbol of Fundamental human qualities and Slytherins are known for their cunning nature. Think about some Slytherins and what you think about them before reading further and you will get a better understanding, I promise that.

The Sorting Hat and Slytherins

Salazar Slytherin was the founder of the Slytherin House. He believed that magic should be taught only to the magical family, in other words, the Pure-bloods. So, he was the only founder believing in Blood-purity while others believed to teach every student who has magic in them. So, Salazar left the castle with the chamber of secret and basilisk inside it to free Hogwarts from muggles. This thinking can be seen in Slytherins too. Voldemort hated muggles and that is why he changed his name as his father was a muggle. You can see in harry potter and the chamber of secrets that Draco Malfoy had the attitude toward the muggles, but there was a difference. Draco did actually hate them from heart, it was taught to him that muggles were bad. From my point of view, it was the environment in which he was raised that was responsible for this, and later you can find Draco Malfoy struggling with this nature. In Deathly Hallows, Draco even refuses to recognize Harry.

Characteristics of Slytherins

The Slytherins think to be the best and the greatest. That means they work hard on their ambitions and use any means to achieve them. They are known for their supreme power, importance, and achievements. Slytherins are Self-interested.

Slytherin colors are Green and Silver. Unlike Gryffindors’ warm colors, Slytherin colors are cool, which shows Slytherin characteristics like being Cool, Calculative, and Controlled. They are masters of strategy and long-term planning. They think through their problems rationally rather than gut feeling impulsive Gryffindors. The house colors are also a symbol of money. Many Slytherins value Wealth and social status like Lucius Malfoy.

Slytherins are best at things. They are determined to be supreme. Let’s think about Voldemort. He was an orphan whom Dumbledore invited to Hogwarts to study. He excelled in magic and favorite pupil of Slughorn and he did not feel bad telling Tom about Horcrux as he believed that he was asking for knowledge. Tom alone studies dark magic by himself which is quite hard to do. Of course, it is bad stuff, but it doesn’t make it any easy and Voldemort learned it. Another best example is Snape, he also was a master in magic that normal witches and wizards can not perform and rivalry with marauders must have made him learn more. It is not mentioned much in movies but Draco Malfoy is awesome at magic.

The house element is water. In astrology, the water sign means intuitive, emotional, and ultra-sensitive. It can be as mysterious as the ocean. Due to this these traits, Slytherins are image-conscious. Just like water can change its form, Slytherins can change and transform. Like snape changed and help against Voldemort, Draco did not confirm Harry’s face even though he knew it was him and Narcissa (Draco’s mother) told Voldemort that Harry Potter was dead.

The house animal is Serpent. In Western culture, snakes are associated with cunning, treachery, and deception. Like many Evil Slytherins. But in other cultures, snakes represent a creative life force, as snakes shed their skins, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. As Slytherins can change as we discussed earlier. So, just like snakes, Slytherins can have a duel nature, evil and good.

Because Slytherins are obsessed with proving themselves superior to others, they can be guilty of arrogance. Like Dobby was punished many times by Draco’s father Lucius Malfoy. Bellatrix Lestranges tortured Hermione Granger as she was a Muggle.

On the other side Sirius black, the godfather of Harry Potter was a pure-blood and cousin of Bellatrix, chose to defy this pure-blood maniac. Andromeda Tonks who was a pure-blood from the black family and chosen into Slytherin married to a muggle-born, Ted Tonks after Hogwarts. Horace Slughorn shared his most ashamed moment that he told Voldemort about Horcruxes, for the greater good.

How can we ignore Severus Snape, when we are talking about good Slytherins? He was a Half-blood prince, master of potions and magic, and also the headmaster of Slytherin. And was extremely good. Spying against Lord Voldemort, who is the master of dark magic? Yeah, well. Like any light-hearted person could do it.

So, Slytherins are not always bad. Yes, they are self-interested, that is why they are called Slytherins, right? We can’t say to a Gryffindor not to be brave; we can’t say to a Ravenclaw not to be wise or a Hufflepuff to stop their kindness. Can we?

Slytherin Common Room

Every House at Hogwarts has a unique common room that perfectly fits to the house traits. The Slytherin common room is in the dungeons of Hogwarts Castle and partly underneath the Black Lake. Because of this, the light in the common room is green.

The house ghost is Bloody Baron. In the book, He was in love with Helena Ravenclaw. He stabbed her out of anger. When he realized what he had done, he turned the knife on himself. Slytherins have intense feelings that they don’t know how to express, and this makes things worse. Like Snape told Lily a mud-blood and there’s Bloody Baron. In the book, Bloody Barons chose to wear chains to atone for his did and Snape turned into a good person to help against Voldemort.
